Regional Training Council–Region V (RTCV)

The mission of the RTCV is to provide quality professional development to providers of adult education: Adult General Education (AGE), pre-GED and GED (General Educational Development) preparatory programs and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). RTCV serves Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach Counties in partnership with the Florida Department of Education, the four school county school districts, library systems, area colleges and community based organizations.

In 2008 – 2009, more than 1000 participants attended 50 workshops.

Through workshops, offered at no charge to the participants, adult education practitioners learn the most current best practices, strategies, curriculum and standards to help them in the administration and teaching of adult learners. Workshop topics have included: Adult Education for Tomorrow, Learning Styles for Adult Education, Creative Classroom Techniques for Low Literacy Adult Learners, American Accent Training, Technology in the Classroom, Fun with GED Math and Listening skills for the ESOL Classroom.

Workshop participants have said:

  • “The information and knowledge that I gained (in the workshop) has empowered me to make my class more interesting and technology centered!”
  • “The sessions that I attended had practical, down-to-earth applications.”
  • “I started to include new activities into my class program, making the course more effective and attractive.”
