 Early Warning: Why Reading by the End of Third Grade Matters, a special KIDS COUNT Report by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, explains the importance of having children read proficiently by the end of the third grade.

The National Assessment of Adult Literacy was conducted in 2003 and is the most comprehensive measure of adult literacy since the 1992 National Adult Literacy Survey. 

Developing Early Literacy, the 2009 report of the National Early Literacy Panel, identifies the early literacy skills that lead to success in reading.

Dual Language Learning: What Does It Take? is a 2008 report prepared for the Office of Head Start that provides suggestions and recommendations to better serve culturally and linguistically diverse children and families.

National Endowment for the Arts. This federal agency has published several reports (Reading at Risk, To Read or Not To Read, and Reading on the Rise) that present results from several surveys about the reading patterns of Americans.      

What Works Clearinghouse. This resource of the US Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, is a source for evidence of what works in education.

the final report of the National Commission on Adult Literacy, presents powerful evidence that the failure to address America's adult education and workforce skills is putting the country in great jeopardy.
