Love of Literacy Luncheon

diane_ackermanThe 2017 Love of Literacy Luncheon was held on Thursday, March 16 at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts at 11:30 a.m. We were thrilled to welcome Diane Ackerman as our featured Luncheon speaker. An award-winning poet, author and naturalist, she is the author of two dozen highly acclaimed works of nonfiction and poetry including The Zookeeper’s Wife and A Natural History of the Senses — books beloved by millions of readers all over the world. The Zookeeper’s Wife, a little-known true story of WWII, became a New York Times bestseller, and received the Orion Book Award, which honored it as “a groundbreaking work of nonfiction, in which the human relationship to nature is explored in an absolutely original way through looking at the Holocaust.” A movie of The Zookeeper’s Wife, starring Jessica Chastain and directed by Niki Caro, was released in late March 2017.

Our 25th Anniversary Celebration

The Literacy Coalition proudly welcomed David Baldacci, international bestselling author and literacy advocate, as our featured speaker for the 25th Annual Love of Literacy Luncheon at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

David Baldacci published his first novel, Absolute Power, in 1996. A major motion picture adaptation followed, with Clint Eastwood as its director and star. In total, David has published 30 novels for adults; all have been national and international bestsellers, and several have been adapted for film and television. His novels have been translated into more than 45 languages and sold in more than 80 countries; over 110 million copies are in print worldwide. David has also published five novels for younger readers, including the #1 bestseller The Finisher, which is in development as a feature film. While David is involved with several philanthropic organizations, his greatest efforts are dedicated to his family’s Wish You Well Foundation®. Established by David and his wife, Michelle, the Foundation supports family and adult literacy in the United States.
