How You Can Help

2024-2025 VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Literacy Coalition Volunteering, Done-In-A-Day:

Read with Me: Volunteer to read one-to-one with elementary school students at local schools. The Literacy Coalition has selected a book and created activities for volunteers and students to share together each session. The students will get to keep the book and activity to take home. Read with Me sessions are set for the second Friday of most months from the Fall through Spring. (45 minutes).

Corporate/Group Reading Days: One or two volunteers read to a class of students, kindergarten through second grade, and follow up with a related activity. The Literacy Coalition selects a book and provides the activity. The book is donated to the classroom or media center. A group can read aloud and do the same activity in multiple classes if time permits (45 to 60 minutes).

Adult Essay Initiative: Review essays written by adult education students throughout the County annually. (45 minutes to an hour).

Read for the Record, October 24, 2024: Volunteers will read in this national reading day to a class of preschool, kindergarten or first-grade students. (30 to 45 minutes).
