The Early Literacy Book Distribution program supports families by providing new, developmentally appropriate books for children ages birth to 5. The Literacy Coalition meets families where they are by partnering with 44 pediatric clinics and 10 different community providers in the Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County’s Healthy Beginnings system of care. These books provide pediatricians with a vehicle to discuss the importance of book-sharing with families during their health supervision visits and help families fit quality books into their tight budgets. Books are selected for Healthy Beginnings programmatic partners to support the types of services that families receive, ranging from healthy development guidance to counseling for trauma. Every baby born in a Palm Beach County hospital receives a book to take home to start their home library.

Success Story
”“We are very appreciative of the Early Literacy Book Distribution program. It allows the Counseling for Parents and Young Children program, the Prenatal Plus Mental Health Program as well as the Positive Parenting Program (Triple P) at Center for Family Services (CFS) to provide our children, teenagers, and parents with great reading materials. Through this incredible partnership, we are able to provide a variety of books that pertain to social emotional learning and mental health, so that our participating families may further their journey of growing, learning, and improving their mental health. The books allow for wonderful bonding time between children and their caregivers while exploring the literary world. We also are able to provide books for adult caregivers, helping sustain them in caring for themselves so they can be the best possible support they can be for their children.”
–Todd L’Herrou, CEO at Center for Family Services of Palm Beach County, Inc.
