Literacy Coalition Announces New Board Members and Officers

 

 

Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is proud to announce new board members. L to R: Eleanor Taft, Chris Duke, Nicole Rocco, Telsula Morgan and Grace Halabi.

 

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., October 2019 – The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County welcomes Chris Duke, Grace Halabi, Telsula Morgan, Nicole Rocco, and Eleanor Taft to its board of directors for a two year term of 2019-2021. All five are passionate about literacy and bring a wealth of talent and community experience to the board.

 

Chris Duke is office managing partner at Akerman, LLP in West Palm Beach. He lives in Palm Beach Gardens with his wife and two children. Duke is co-chair for the Coalition’s Grand Bee at the Harriet Himmel Theater on Oct. 17.

 

Grace Halabi is senior vice president/market executive at Iberia Bank in Palm Beach. She is a member of the Literacy Coalition’s “Love of Literacy Luncheon” Committee and lives in Boynton Beach.

 

Telsula Morgan is an attorney with Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A. She lives in West Palm Beach and is a member of the Coalition’s Grand Bee and Nominating committees.

 

Nicole Rocco is a corporate counsel with Florida Crystals Corporation in downtown West Palm Beach and is a member of the Coalition’s Grand Bee and Loop for Literacy committees. She lives in Palm Beach Gardens with her husband and two children.

 

Eleanor Taft is assistant general counsel at Florida Power & Light Company in Juno Beach. She is chair of the Literacy Coalition’s Bylaws Committee.

 

The Coalition also swore in its new board officers for 2019-20. They are:

 

President: Tom Streit of Jupiter is a retired real estate lawyer, formerly a partner at Akerman, LLP.

 

Vice President: Lynn Kalber of West Palm Beach has worked as an editor and writer in print and digital journalism for more than 35 years in regional publications.

 

Secretary: Len Gray of West Palm Beach is a retired senior executive with Mercer (global HR and investment consulting), where he dedicated nearly 25 years in various leadership positions.

 

Treasurer: Matt Criscuolo of Boca Raton is an attorney with the law firm of Cozen O’Connor. He has been a member of the Literacy Coalition board since 2017.

 

Member at Large: Bernadette O’Grady of Palm Beach Gardens is the director of Programming and Media Convergence for WPTV 5.

 

Member at Large: Nancy Vera of Delray Beach is a senior meeting planner and event professional.

 

Parliamentarian: Laurie L. Gildan of North Palm Beach is an attorney and shareholder with 30 years of practice at the firm of Greenberg Traurig.

 

Immediate Past President: Susan Rabinowitz of Wellington is a credit risk executive for Bank of America covering the Florida market with over 26 years of experience in the financial services industry.

A recipient of the coveted 4-star Charity Navigator rating for 11 consecutive years, the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County has worked to improve the quality of life in our community by promoting and achieving literacy. One in seven adults in our county is unable to read and understand information found in books, newspapers and manuals and nearly half of all third graders are not reading on grade level. Through extensive outreach and collaboration with a network of community partners, the Literacy Coalition strives to ensure that individuals who need to improve their literacy skills receive the help they need. By providing services to more than 27,000 adults, children and families each year, the Literacy Coalition’s goal is for every child and every adult in Palm Beach County to be able to read.
