10th Annual LOOP and leap for Literacy Set for February 29 at Bryant Park in Lake Worth

Walk, Run or Bike to Help Wipe Out Illiteracy in Palm Beach County

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., January 8, 2020 — The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is inviting residents countywide to leap into action on February 29, 2020, to help wipe out illiteracy by participating in the 10th annual LOOP FOR LITERACY presented by Florida Crystals. The family‐friendly walk, run and cycling event is set
for Leap Day at Bryant Park in Lake Worth.

Those interested in actively supporting literacy programs that ensure adults and children succeed in life are encouraged to form a team or participate as an individual.

Participants can choose from:

• ROADSIDE BIKE RIDE: $50
    The 24‐mile ride begins in the park at 7 a.m., includes a rest stop at Manatee Lagoon and loops back to Bryant Park. Helmets required.
• 5K USATF CERTIFIED RUN / WALK: Adult ‐ $35 / Student (18 and under) ‐ $15
     The 5K run starts at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K walk at 8:05 a.m.
     The certified course starts in the park, loops around the neighborhood and finishes in the park.
• KIDS 1 MILE FUN RUN: (12 years and under) ‐ $10
     Starts at 8:45 a.m.
• KIDS 100‐YARD DASH: (7 years and under) ‐ $10
     Starts at 9 a.m.

The event, chaired by Literacy Coalition Board Members Larry Katz and Joe   Grant, both of Boca Raton, includes refreshments, awards and prizes. Every child registered will receive a book.

LOOP for Literacy sponsors to date include Gold Sponsors Bill Bone Bike Law and Domino Sugar; Bronze Sponsors Marshall Grant PLLC, Sugar Growers Cooperative of Florida, and Wells Fargo. Road Closure Information:

Race Start: 8:00am
Final Finisher: 9:00am

Begin Road Cone Placement: 6:00am
Removal of Cones complete: 10:00am

PBSO will be positioned for closure of key streets: S. Golfview Rd. at Lake Ave; S. Golfview Rd. at 1^st Ave S.; 1^st Ave S.at Ocean Breeze; 5^th Ave S. at Ocean Breeze; and 18^th Ave S. at S. Palm Way.

All intersecting side streets will be blocked with cones as will the above mentioned intersections.

Runners will be on the following roads where vehicular access will be restricted:

• Golfview Rd. between 1^st Ave S.and 2^nd Ave S.
• 1^st Ave S. between S. Golfview Rd. and Ocean Breeze
• Ocean Breeze between 1^st Ave S. and 5^th Ave S.
• 5^th Ave S. between Ocean Breeze and S. Lakeside Drive
• Southbound S. Palm Way between 5^th Ave S. and 18^th Ave S.
• S. Lakeside Dr. between 5^th Ave S. and 18 Ave S.
• 18^th Ave S. between southbound S. Palm Way and S. Lakeside Dr.

Running course Turn By Turn description:

• Start: Northbound on S. Golfview Rd. between 1^st Ave S. and 2^nd Ave S.
• Left turn onto 1^st Ave S. running west
• Left turn from 1^st Ave S. onto Ocean Breeze running south
• Left turn from Ocean Breeze onto 5^th Ave S. running east
• Right turn from 5^th Ave S. onto southbound S. Palm Way running south
• Continue straight south on southbound S. Palm Way until 18^th Ave S.
• Left turn onto 18^th Ave S. running east
• Left turn onto S. Lakeside Dr. running north
• Continue straight north on S. Lakeside Dr. until 5^th Ave S.
• Right turn onto 5^th Ave S. running east
• Runners transition from the road to the park path starting at S. Lakeside Dr. and 5^th Ave S.
• Runners use the path to run east and then north parallel to the Intracoastal Waterway
• Left turn off the path at the parking lot to proceed to the finish
• Finish: Same as the start
