New York Times Bestselling and Pulitzer Prize-winning Author Geraldine Brooks to Headline 2024 Love of Literacy Luncheon on April 11
Brooks’ Bestsellers Include Horse, March, Caleb’s Crossing, People of the Book, and Year of Wonders
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Feb. 14, 2024 – Known for her impeccably researched historical novels, Australian-born author Geraldine Brooks will share her journey from journalist to novelist at the 33rd Annual Love of Literacy Luncheon presented by Bank of America. The popular fundraiser is set for 11:30 a.m., April 11, 2024, at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in West Palm Beach.
Brooks won the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2006 for her novel March. Her novels People of the Book, Caleb’s Crossing and The Secret Chord all were New York Times bestsellers. Her first novel, Year of Wonders, is an international bestseller, translated into more than 25 languages and currently optioned for a limited series by acclaimed actress Olivia Coleman’s production company. Prior to writing novels, Brooks was a journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald and The Wall Street Journal.
Brooks’ latest critically acclaimed novel is Horse. Based on the remarkable true story of the record-breaking thoroughbred, Lexington, who became America’s greatest stud sire, the book is described as “a gripping, multi-layered reckoning with the legacy of enslavement and racism in America.” The Coalition has copies of this book available for a $10 donation.

The annual Love of Literacy Luncheon is typically a sold-out event, so those interested in participating are encouraged to purchase their tickets, table, or sponsorship early.

The luncheon, co-chaired by Telsula C. Morgan of Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A. and Lindsay Reinhart of Searcy Denney Scarola Barnhart & Shipley, P.A., is the Literacy Coalition’s signature event. It brings the community together to increase awareness of significant literacy needs and raise crucial funds to support literacy programs for children and adults from Jupiter to Boca Raton to Belle Glade.
